A Pirate in the world of One Piece is anyone who raises a Jolly Roger, whether they commit an act of piracy or not. This is not, however, usually enough to give anyone a bounty, but is enough to be wanted by the Marines. Pirates may range in both morality and public perception they all share one thing in common: they owe no loyalty to no one.

Types of Pirates

First mentioned in Romance Dawn, the two main types of pirate are Peace Mains and Morganeers .

Peace Main

A peace main is a pirate who goes on adventures and does not really care about amassing treasure or fighting other pirates. That is not to say that they will not steal treasure from others if it is there and the chance is open, but their primary goal is usually not to own it and greed is generally not their motivation. More often than not, a peace main pirate sees his or her own crew as their most valuable treasure. Some pirates start out as peace mains but may have a life changing experience, possibly a great loss or general corruption over time, and become more like a morganeer.

Morganeer

The morganeer fight for treasure and personal ambition. They are greedy and love to fight just to cause other people pain and misery. The peace main pirates however, only steal from them, so it is safe to say that the relations between the two are not the best.

Morganeer pirates do not see their crew as a valuable asset to them and will easily kill them for opposing them. Also, a majority of the morganeer type pirates shown in One Piece do not dream at all, and if they do, it is about achieving world domination or something along the lines of that.

Pros and Cons

Thread Privacy: Privacy in threads is deemed by your character’s bounty, location, and what they choose to do. Be cautious of what you role play, as there is no guarantee you are in a ‘safe’ situation. To keep your threads inconspicuous, your character must be inconspicuous as well.

Bargaining: Pirates have the least pull when it comes to bargaining and trading since realistically traders and vendors who are happy selling to pirates will sell to anyone without fear. Certain vendors may attempt to hike up prices on their goods or even cheat you when selling yours if they know of you. On the other hand, a vendor who doesn’t usually sell to pirates might be afraid of you and give you better deals in order to get you out of there hair quickly. However, both these scenarios are extremely rare and shouldn’t be expected as a norm.

Safe Zones: Safe Zones pertain to countries and islands without marines or a marine base. In these places the best form of "Justice" available, will be small police forces, vigilantes or guerrilla factions. If any present forces decide to call for marine help, it would take a day at minimum to go through the proper channels and send out backup.

Bounties: Like in canon, bounties were only awarded and increased for acts that the government truly considered heinous. To that end, bounty increases will generally only occur from instances where moderators deem your character’s actions prove themselves to be more dangerous than previously thought. That being said, trying to self-engineer scenarios to make your character look more dangerous will likely be ignored. These things need to be organic.
